It was a beautiful morning on the Chesapeake Bay, and the osprey were out in full force. They seem to have multiplied since last year. Every 30 feet, there is another next on one of my neighbor’s piers.
Ospreys mate for life, and they come back to nest in the same place every year. At this time in the season, they have already mated and the moms-to-be spend all day sitting on their eggs. The dads are the bread-winners and fierce guardians of their family.
It is not unusual to see a male osprey swooping down low over the water to pick up a fish, or using their huge bodies to dive bomb would-be intruders. Unfortunately, the beautiful herons that usually grace the Bay are one of those intruders. During mating season, they are banished from the Bay by fierce osprey dads guarding their nests.
This got me to thinking, yes, there is much abundance in the Universe. But it is not always possible to experience everything at once. Just as the osprey have their season, and the herons have their own…sometimes we have to let one dream percolate in the background while we fiercely guard the one that is currently our greatest passion.
I think that is what Gay Hendricks means by “living in your zone of genius.” Once you know what you are most passionate about, you need to guard your time fiercely to pursue it with single-minded commitment. This doesn’t mean you have to give up other things you care about. Your passions are likely to change over time, and as they do, so will your zone of genius.
But in the present moment, focus on what you are most passionate about, and let the rest go. This is a rich, abundance Universe, and other opportunities will unfold when the time is right for you.
Hi Laurie,
Your post brought tears to my eyes, it was so simple, yet so poingnant. I have been working on clarifying just what my dreams are, and you are right, as soon as I started to zero in on what I really cared about, and put it on paper and out in the universe, it began to have it’s own energy. It has made me realize that dreams are not for the faint of heart, they will demand your all, if they are big enough.
Dream on!
Miriam

Hi Miriam,
That is so true, but it is worth giving your all for something that makes you come alive. As Joe Vitale says, the key to success is to “Dare Something Worthy.”
